Blyth School Headteacher

Headteacher Elizabeth Piddington welcomes you to St Mary and St Martin's School Blyth.

The small Primary School is situated towards the centre of the village with good access for parents to drop off or collect their children. Playing fields to the front and the back of the school provide the children with ample opportunity to enjoy break times.

The Friends of Blyth School have over the years through their fundraising. added many extras for the enjoyment of the children, ie a gazebo and nature garden.

To excel in providing quality education in a supportive Christian environment, where all individuals can flourish within the school and wider community and reflect the Love of God shown in Jesus Christ.

Ofsted Report

The latest Ofsted inspection was in July 2004 and the school was classified as follows:
" This is a good school, the pupils achieve well and the standards are well above expected levels in Year 6. Teaching and learning are good and the school is well lead and managed giving good value for money...the caring, purposeful ethos leads to very good attitudes and behaviour..."

Admission Policy

There is an established Admission Policy which incorporates the guidelines set by the Local education Authority (LEA) combined with individual School criteria. Applications for a place at Blyth School must be submitted to the LEA by the 14th of January of the academic year before the childs 5th birthday.

Foundation Places

These are granted to children living in the Church Parish of Blyth with Hodsock.

School Term Times

The current Summer term ends on July 21st, the Autumn Term begins 5th September.

School Session Times

The School begins at 08:45 to 12:20 (3 lessons) then 13:20 to 15:30 (2 lessons).

School Dress

Many parents (and children!) appreciate a form of school uniform, the School encourages a blue / grey / white colour scheme for dress.

School Pupil Council

This has recently been introduced and is very successful, the children show a strong interest in the workings of the school.

Extra Curricular Activities

There are many actitivies outside of school including, football, drama, basketball, music, art and an I.T. club to name a few!

Meals At School

Meals are prepared on the premises following current Government guidelines for healthy eating.

  • Packed Lunches are permitted.
  • Healthy snacks are provided at break times.
  • National fruit scheme is in operation.
  • Milk is provided to Keystage 1.
  • Water points have recently been installed.

Blyth School Main Entrance


The School actively supports both local and national Charities and have raised funds in some remarkable ways! Previously the School has raisede sufficient monies to purchase two Baby Monitors for the Local Health Authority and has supported Child Eye Cancer Research and the Bluebell Hospice.

The PTA (now called The Friends of Blyth School)

The F.O.B.S. actively support fund raising on behalf of the school, recent donations have included books, carpets, curtains and improvements to the school grounds.
