St Mary and St Martin’s Handbell Ringers
The handbell ringers meet most Tuesdays during school term times between 7.30and 9.30pm in the Committee Room at the Barnby Memorial Hall, High Street, Blyth.
We practice Tune Ringing on a two octave chromatic set of Taylor’s English handbells, originally cast in the 1930s. They were first used by a group of male tower ringers who probably abandoned the church in the winter for the warmth of the pub to practice change ringing.
We have been meeting for more than 25 years and we have in the past travelled to France to give concerts. Now we play at church services, Village Fairs, Nursing Homes and weddings etc. We attend rallies organised by the East Midland Branch of the Handbell Ringers of Great Britain (HRGB).
If you would like to join us, it can be a very rewarding hobby and an easy way to play music ensemble. We ring from colour-coded staff notation music. You can also be part of a worldwide organisation because handbell ringing is very popular in Japan, Korea, Australia, Canada and the USA.
